Course Work
In this 1-year program, students take 4 courses at our New England Teaching Center in Auburn, Mass.
The courses are:
Soul Care for Men: Shaping Men's Roles in Church & Society
American Christianity has shaped the 21st century church. Using insights from the disciplines of Church History and Spiritual Formation, students will work on their own personal and spiritual development as transformational leaders. Students practice the spiritual disciplines required for a life and ministry typified by spiritual power, godly wisdom, and the ability to discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in one's life and leadership. Particular attention will be given to the historic church in New England as the backdrop to 21st century spiritual life.
Hermeneutics for Students of the World; with Guided Learning Experience
This course is an introduction to the relationships among writer, text, and reader in the process of interpreting Scripture, and to methods for studying the Bible. Students gain practical skills in interpreting the primary genre of the Scriptures. A guided learning experience will require each student to prepare a biblically informed presentation for their ministry.
Foundations for Biblical Manhood & Developing a Church-Based Ministry to Men
This course will address God's intentions for men and their roles in the family and in society, and their impact on Christian culture in 21st century America. How does the church reach men in today's society, establish them in their faith, and grow them as disciples of Christ? Which ministry resources for men work well in the church, and which do not? Students will develop a guided learning experience that applies insights from this course to their ministry setting.
Equipping and Mobilizing Men for Ministry & Developing Men for Spiritual Leadership
This course will explore how the church leader moves from "ministry to the man" to "ministry through the man." Students will learn what Scripture says about equipping and mobilizing men to engage in fruitful, long-term ministry, and what current models do so most effectively. What are the biblical pathways to spiritual leadership in the local church? What works best to develop a man's character, skills, knowledge, disciplines, theology, and maturity?
