Certificate Programs

Your deep gladness, the world’s deep hunger

At Bethel Seminary we will help you prepare to serve God and the world with deep passion, confidence, and competence. Our new non-degree certificate programs are designed to enable pastors and lay people to respond to some of the most pressing needs of 21st-century culture—an aging population, pervasive spiritual hunger, and an increasingly sexualized environment, to name a few. You can earn certificates in:

• Spiritual Formation
  
  
  
• Adult Development and Generativity
  Encouraging adults in midlife and beyond to offer their creativity and wisdom in ways that enrich future generations
  
  
• Pastoral Counseling (available Summer 2008)
  Providing prevention of and intervention in relational, vocational, and spiritual challenges facing individuals and families
  
  
• Sexuality, Wholeness, and Community
  Attending to the development of authentic, healthy sexuality in individuals and congregations
  
  
• Special Needs and Faith Communities
  Equipping congregations to support and be ministered to by those with developmental, physical, intellectual, and other special needs
  
  
• Chaplaincy and Crisis Response (available Summer 2008)
  Providing leadership in non-parish environments and in situations of stress and/or catastrophe

Certificate students take six courses over an 18-month period.

Every course has an online component, and four of the six involve a week-long intensive. You will:

• Develop a sense of community and support within your certificate cohort as you individually and together develop effective responses to the challenges of the world around you.
• Learn to think systemically in culturally relevant ways as you prepare to minister to those for whom God has given you a particular passion.
• Engage with professors who not only understand the cutting-edge theological and theoretical realities of their disciplines, but who are also skilled practitioners with a track record of effectiveness.
