Theologian Simon Chan, Ph.D., of Singapore, is a leading evangelical theologian, and one with a global perspective. While rooted in the church life of the Assemblies of God, his writing and ministry engage the wider and older Christian traditions as well. His influential publications include Spiritual Theology: A Systematic Study of the Christian Life and Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping Community. Chan regards worship as both central to the life of the church and the energizing impulse for its mission in the world.

Refreshments will be served. Admission is $20 for each event (waived for Bethel Seminary students and spouses). Please RSVP by March 3 to events-sandiego@bethel.edu or call Caleb Hummel at 619.582.8188, ext. 227.

The Annual Clifford V. Anderson Global Missions Lecture strives to bring to Bethel Seminary San Diego world-class experts who are actively involved in global and contextual ministries and research. Bethel Seminary is an institution that seeks to have far-reaching impact and a strong global focus. This year’s speaker will be Simon Chan. In addition to Chan’s accomplishments listed previously, he was prominently featured in a June 2007 Christianity Today article entitled “The Mission of the Trinity” in which he was interviewed about his views on missional theology.

Refreshments will be served. This event is free of charge through a generous endowment from a friend of Bethel Seminary. Please RSVP by March 3 to events-sandiego@bethel.edu or call Caleb Hummel at 619.582.8188, ext. 227.

Simon Chan

“What is the mission of the Trinity? The answer to that question is communion. Ultimately, all things are to be brought back into communion with the triune God. Communion is the ultimate end, not mission.” —Simon Chan
