Scholarships for 2013-2014

A scholarship is a gift given to recognize your academic achievements, ministry partnerships, or acts of service. We offer several scholarships for full-time seminary students. New for 2013-2014: Bethel institutional gift aid applies to fall and spring semesters only.

Bethel University Graduate Scholarship

(New for 2013-2014)

Amount: $300 per semester; $600 per year.

Renewal: Renewable. 

Eligibility: Graduates from Bethel University College of Arts & Sciences or College of Adult & Professional Studies during the 2012-2013 academic year beginning a master's level program at the seminary. Must be enrolled full time within one year of graduating.

How to apply: Must identify yourself as eligible for this grant on your Bethel Financial Aid Application.

Converge Worldwide Scholarship

Amount: $150 per semester; $300 per year.

Renewal: Must reapply annually and maintain membership in Converge Worldwide church.

Eligibility: Students who are members of Converge Worldwide churches and are taking at least 6 credits per semester in a master's level program.

How to apply: Must identify yourself as a member on your Bethel Financial Aid Application.

Incoming Student Scholarships

Amount: $1,000 per semester; $2,000 per year.

Renewal: Renewable for 3 consecutive years. 

Eligibility: Students who are enrolled full-time in a master’s level program at the St. Paul campus. Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Competitive online application, with no more than 10 recipients.

How to apply: Submit the online scholarship application by May 1.

Kern Scholarship

Amount: Varies.

Renewal: Renewable for 3 consecutive years.

Eligibility: Each Kern Scholar will need the endorsement of a sending church. In most cases this competitive scholarship covers the majority of tuition and is funded by the Kern Family Foundation, Bethel Seminary, and the sending church. Selection committee nominates individuals to the Kern Family Foundation. Based on GPA, not need-based. Available to students at the St. Paul campus only.

Ministry Partnership Scholarship

Amount: $1,400 per semester; $2,800 per year.

Renewal: Students must apply every academic year and maintain their relationship with the ministry partner.

Eligibility: Students who are regularly admitted seminary students pursuing a master's degree or a graduate certificate and are either members or employees of churches, or employees of parachurch organizations, that are official ministry partners of Bethel Seminary. Students must be taking at least 6 credits per semester and do not need to demonstrate financial need. Recipients may apply for the need-based Bethel Grant and educational loans (by completing the FAFSA), but will not be considered for other Bethel-funded grants or scholarships.

How to apply: Download, complete and submit the scholarship application to the financial aid office prior to the start of class.

If you receive your financial aid award before your church or organization enters into a ministry partnership agreement with Bethel Seminary, your scholarship amount will be pro-rated.

Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $6,000 per year.

Renewal: Students must apply every year,

Eligibility: Minnesota residents who are one-fourth or more Indian ancestry and demonstrate financial need. Awarded by state of Minnesota on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to apply:

  1. Fill out a separate application through the Minnesota Office of Education.
  2. Complete the FAFSA.

Returning Student and Doctor of Ministry Scholarships

Amount: Varies.

Renewal: Non-renewable.

Eligibility: Students taking at least 6 credits per semester in a master’s level program, or are enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program.  Available to students at the St. Paul or San Diego campuses only.

How to apply: Submit the online scholarship application by April 15.
