Community Ministry Leadership


Feeding the poor isn’t enough.

The urban poor and un-poor alike need empowerment. So prepare to empower. How? Apply for the Community Ministry Leadership program at Bethel Seminary.

You’ll get tools, such as:

  • methods in practical and contextual theology—think theologically about personal and spiritual formation.
  • effective ministry planning and development—learn to effectively address holistic and developmental needs.
  • compassionate urban ministry—explore how to empower people affected by stressful life events.
  • street culture, the poor, and urban ministry—understand urban life and culture, and how to  maximize your impact working with the urban poor.
  • facilitating community development—discover how to mobilize and organize resources for change.


Certificate program
Develop skills for leadership in the urban context by completing our one-year Community Ministry Leadership Certificate Program.

Master of Arts program
Bethel’s SemPM (Monday night school) program enables people with busy daytime schedules to complete the Master of Arts in Community Ministry Leadership in three years while attending class one night a week, with about 20 hours of directed independent study between each class period.
