Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

Bethel Seminary Students should contact Greg Meland if interested in CPE or hoping to utilize CPE for Internship or Credit (approval needed prior to starting CPE).

Position:  CPE Internship PT
Open To:  Men and Women
Job Description:  VITAS' CPE programs offer experience-based theological education to seminarians, clergy and lay people of diverse faith traditions and cultures. We guide students in developing the skills and inner resources to provide compassionate spiritual care to hospice patients and their families. In San Diego, urban clinical placements include a mobile health clinic for the un- and under-insured, a children's residential program, an outreach program for vulnerable seniors, homeless shelters and hospitals.
Candidate Description:  For Units of CPE: An individual who, through a written application and an admissions interview, has demonstrated the ability to participate in CPE, usually one who has successfully completed at least one year of theological school. And such other requirements or education and experience as a specific CPE center may require.

Position: Extended CPE Unit Level I
Position Description:

  • Extended Unit Level I ACPE engages students in a part-time program of education and clinical pastoral service.
  • The weekly time commitment is arranged with supervisors and peers.
  • In addition to the 400 hours required to complete one unit of CPE, Extended Unit students participate in on-call rotation which includes some overnights and weekends.
  • Acceptance in the program is contingent on satisfaction of volunteer services and health requirements of the University of Colorado Hospital.
  • We serve the University of Colorado Hospital, University of Colorado at Denver and Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Physical Therapy at Anschutz Medical Campus.

Program dates include:
Fall Extended Unit: August 20 through December 21, 2012 at 20 hours/week - Application deadline: July 15, 2012
Winter Extended Unit: January 7 through May 3, 2013 at 20 hours/week - Application deadline: November 1, 2012
