Job Description: Come join the visionary team of a strategic church ministry located in the Heartland of America. Our 65 year old church has nearly doubled in size in the last three years and recently moved into our new church home - a remodeled Wal-Mart store, located on the city's most heavily traveled thoroughfare, with plenty of room for expansion. We already have the premier children's ministry in the area including an established full-time pre-school, Awana, summer day camps, Vacation Bible School, and Divorce Care for Kids. There is plenty of growth potential as we are a regional church with families traveling 50 miles one way to be part of our congregation. Candidate Description:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher
  2. Called to children’s ministry - a passion to reach children with the life-changing Gospel of Christ
  3. Training and experience in childhood development and/or education preferred
  4. Prior leadership in children’s ministry (volunteer or paid)
  5. Self starter, multi-tasker; teachable spirit; team oriented – gets enjoyment from and adds life to the teams they lead and interact with
  6. Community-minded – eager and burdened to bring the bright light to the darkness of Yankton and the surrounding areas

Job Description:The Children's Ministry at Newton Presbyterian Church is at a unique junction. We have an established set of successful programs, with a stable base of families and willing volunteers. But we believe there is much more that we can do to both deepen the impact of our current programs for our existing families, better support and equip our families to raise faithful children and, importantly, use Children's Ministry as an explicit outreach tool to grow the membership of the church. We are looking for a Children's Ministry Director who is excited and capable of both executing current programs and has vision and enthusiasm to greatly expand this ministry.
The Children's Ministry Director will manage all aspects of programming for children ages infant through grade 5 including, but not limited to:

  1. Design and execution of Children's Program (including Sunday School program and Vacation Bible School)
  2. Development and delivery of resources and support for families related to children
  3. Identification and cultivation of outreach opportunities in the greater Boston area
  4. Coordination with other related NPC ministries (i.e., family, youth and women's ministries)

This position reports to the Associate Pastor for Family and Community Life. The Children's Ministry Team consists of 5-8 volunteers serving three year terms to support execution. In addition, numerous other volunteers participate in specific activities (e.g., Sunday School teachers).

The primary focus of the position is to lead the children's ministry as a means of helping families grow as followers of Christ. This person will also work closely with the campus pastor in the leadership, shepherding and growth of the campus' people and ministries.   • Coordinate with the leaders of Awana and the Chinese School to reach out to non-churched children and families.
  • Network with para-church children's ministry organizations.

Discipleship to children and families

  • Ensure Children's Ministry uses curriculum and educational tools that teach Biblical truths and principles that are appropriate for various developmental levels.
  • Teach the Discipleship Class for children wishing to get baptized.
  • Personally visit families and/or oversee others who visit them.

Personal Testimony

  • Seek, by personal example and precept, to inspire children and teachers in Christian faith and living.
  • Clearly articulate the purpose of God through the ministry of Christian education.

Candidate Description:Qualifications

  1. Demonstrate that you are a growing and mature Christian.
  2. Have a solid knowledge of Scripture.
  3. Have the ability to equip leaders and possess experience in administration.
  4. Have the ability to evangelize.
  5. Be passionate about ministry to children and families.
  6. Possess an appreciation of both Chinese and American cultures, and be open to learning more about both.
  7. Must have a 4-year degree of Christian education (emphasis in Children's Ministry) or Elementary education.
  8. Experience as a teacher to children in a local church.
  9. Demonstrate competence in the interpretation and teaching of the Scriptures, theological concepts, history of the church, and current issues.
