Job Description: The following position description is a brief 'snapshot' of the senior pastor position at Union.  For more information, view the complete job description.
1. Leadership: 40% - Eph 4:1-3  

  • Cast vision and inspire people to discern and live God’s revealed vision for them personally and Union Center Christian Church corporately
  • In community with the executive pastor and the leadership team, humbly seek God’s revelation of vision and the specific ministry opportunities for our church to pursue and communicate this to the church clearly and often
  • Develop a redemptive, hope-filled atmosphere that is welcoming and safe, empowering others to act and instilling confidence

2. Preaching and Teaching: 40% - Hebrews 4:12-13 

  • Cultivate an atmosphere where the Word of God is deeply esteemed and gladly obeyed
  • Be truth-filled, spirit-led and courageous, speaking the truth in love
  • As the lead preacher and teacher, build and work with a preaching/teaching and worship team

3. Shepherding: 10% - Acts 20:28-30  

  • Foster a grace-filled community
  • As lead shepherd under Christ, work with pastoral Soul Care staff to ensure congregants are effectively shepherded, equipped, empowered, and engaged

4. Missions: Local and Global Outreach: 10% - Matthew 28:18-20  

  • Work with the global missions team to promote congregational partnership for global outreach endeavors
  • Work with the local missions team to promote congregational partnership for local outreach endeavors
  • Meaningfully connect with other church leaders in the region for encouragement, development and accountability

Candidate Description:
1. Professional: I Timothy 3:6

  • At least five years experience in a lead executive or associate pastor role preferred
  • A Master of Divinity degree from an accredited seminary preferred
  • Experience in a multiple staff setting and in collaboration with other staff and lay leaders

2. Personal:

  • Personal beliefs consistent with Union Center Christian Church’s Constitution, Covenant Values, distinctives and aspirations
  • A lifestyle of transparency and personal accountability (Eph 5:21)
  • A life that models the ways of God and is formed by the person of Christ, as a servant leader (John 15:4)
  • A high view of God, a passion for God and His truth, and a compassion for people (1 Cor 9:19-23)
  • A personal calling to the role of senior pastor and to Union Center Christian Church (Eph 2:10)
  • Understanding of the principle of being blessed to be a blessing; devoted to the Kingdom of God in the “here-and-now” (2 Cor 2:14-17)
  • Personal experience with emotional healing as described in our covenant value of Freedom in Christ (1 Pet 5:6-11)
  • A passionate commitment to personal development and the development of others (Eph 4:11-16)

Job Description: The Senior Pastor is to carry out the mission of Winthrop Street Baptist Church (WSBC) of Taunton, Massachusetts. He is responsible for the spiritual welfare, worship services, and carrying out the long-term vision of WSBC.     • Mentor the Deacons.
    • Pray together before the Worship Service and on other occasions.
    • Plan for and provide leadership in the observance of the church ordinances.
  3. Direct the Worship Service.

    • Plan and deliver a well-prepared sermon that is Biblical, convicting, challenging, inspiring, and relevant to the congregation.
    • Coordinate with the Music Team.
    • Be available after the service to encourage attendees and identify newcomers.
    • Facilitate special services (marriages, funerals, baptisms, Communion, child dedications).
    • Facilitate a dynamic Sunday Service that increases spiritual and numerical growth.
  4. Direct the Mid-Week Prayer Meeting.
  5. Lead the staff and church members to become involved in missions support through prayer and missions offerings as well as personal involvement, when possible, through missions activities in the local community and state, as well as nationally and internationally.
  6. Be available to teach Bible classes at the request of the Christian Education Team. This will depend on the church's needs and the pastor's current commitments.
  7. Provide pastoral care. Lead the staff and the church in a caring ministry for persons in the church and in the community.

  8. Supervise the church's Administrative Assistant and other staff assigned to his supervision.
  9. Submit an Annual Report for the Annual Meeting.
  10. Serve on the Ministry Council and Christian Education Team and as a staff resource for church teams as needed.
  11. Comply with all established church policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal and state laws.  

Candidate Description: The requirements for candidacy include a Master of Divinity or the equivalent, five years of ministry experience, urban experience, and an evangelical Baptistic theology. The Pastor is the primary teaching pastor of the church. He should give considerable time to the study of the Word and teach the Scriptures to our church family by word and example. He should aim to feed the church family, and guard the church against the attack of the enemy so that we might fulfill our mission statement of "Know Christ, Grow in Christ, Serve Christ, Share Christ".

  • Maintain a close relationship with God through regular Bible study, meditation, and prayer. Provide evidence of this relationship by an obvious walk with the Lord in all aspects of life.
  • Must be a I Timothy 3.1-7 man.
  • Must possess a willingness to follow the example of Jesus, who did not come to be served, but to serve (Matt. 20.28).
  • Possess the Gifts of Preaching and Leadership.

Education: Seminary Degree
Experience: Some time working in a secular position is instructive but not prerequisite. Prefer 5-10 years experience in a church of 200 or more and in a position that would prepare him for leadership of a multiple person staff and a congregation the size of Grace Church.
