Position: Chaplain Intern

Job Description: The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is seeking to change lives with the Gospel. The Volunteer Chaplain intern gains valuable experience in the practice of para-church ministry by providing support to Staff Chaplains who oversee spiritual care for all clients at the Mission. In addition, the Chaplain Interns develops friendships, gains trust, and guides at-risk individuals in making life changing decisions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides spiritual care to residents including periodic pastoral follow up via visitation, prayer, pastoral counsel, and spiritual direction.
  2. When required, provides administrative support for the Case Management program including the use of client intake and tracking process software when qualified.
  3. Supports the evening chapel program schedule, chaplain staffing, and adheres to department and mission policies and procedures.
  4. Fosters a co-operative work environment with other Mission programs to ensure that program goals and objectives are achieved.
  5. Responsible for maintaining client confidentiality in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy regulations.

Minimum Job Requirements include:

  1. Demonstrated Christian maturity and passion for ministry.
  2. Active local church membership and ministry involvement.
  3. Be willing to participate in on-going educational opportunities and certifications, i.e., CPR certification.
  4. Must complete a background check with no history of violence or sexual offenses.
  5. Background experience appropriate to assigned area(s) when required, i.e., Case Management, etc.
  6. Must work as required to satisfy the requirements of the sending organization.

Candidate Description: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to analyze information and to define and solve problems.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  3. Ability to be self motivated and demonstrate initiative.
  4. Able to support the Union Gospel Mission’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with staff and clients.
